In an unusually tough anti-smoking move, one of Seoul's main boulevards wil be declared a no-smoking zone and violators will face fines, officials said Wednessday.

흔치 않은 강력한 금연의 움직임에, 서울의 한 주요 도로들 중 하나는 금연구역을 선언될 것이고, 위반자들은 벌금을 낼 것이라고 수요일에 관계자들은 말했다.

Seoul's Seocho-gu Ward Office said Gangnam-daero, a 5-kilometer-long major boulevard that cuts through the busy commercial district of Gangnam in southern Seoul, and its sidewalks will be designated as a no-smoking zone starting April 1.

서울의 서초구청은 서울 남부지역인 강남의 바쁜 상업적인 거리를 토해 자른 주요 5키로미터 도로와 그것의 보도는 4월 1일부터 금연구역으로 지정될 거라고 말했다.

Violators will be fined 50,000won($45), the office said, noting an enforcement team of 18 civil will stroll up and down the streets from 9a.m. to 10p.p.

위반자들은 벌금 50,000이 부과되고, 18명의 시처 공무원의 집행팀은 거리를 아침 9시부터 저녁 10시까지 다닐 것이라고 말했다.

Seoul and South Korea as a whole have stepped up efforts to discourage smoking in public areas.

서울과 한국은 전체적으로 공공장소에서 흡연을 줄이려는 노력을 강화해오고 있다.

At  present, people caught smoking within 10 meters of a subway entrance in Seoul are slappedd with a fine of up to 100,000 won.

현재, 사람들은 서울 지하철 통행로의 10미터이내에서 100,000원까지 벌금을 부과해 흡연을 잡고 있다.

The Seocho district's smoke-free zone is currently restricted to the vicinity of Gangnam Station, one of the capital's busiest at the center of Gangnam-daero.

Earlier in March 2012, the Gangnam Station area became the nation's first no-smoking street.

그 서초구 거리의 금연구역은 현재 강남역 부근으로 제한되고 있고, 강남대로의 중심에서 가장 부미는 도시들 중 한곳으로 더 이른 2012년 3월, 강남역 지역은 그 지역의 첫 번째 금연 구역이 되었다.

A recent poll of 619 pedestrians on Gangnam-daero found over 80 percent of them supported the expansion of the no smoking zone to the entire boulevard, officials said, adding the move is expected to reduce second-hand smoke as well as the smoking rate.(Yonhap)

최근 강남대로에서 시행한 여론조사 참여자인 619명 보행자의 80퍼센트는 그 금연구역의 도로 전체의 확장을 지지햇ㅆ고, 간접흡연 뿐만 아니라 흡연율도 줄어드는 움직임이 늘어날 것을 예상하고 있다고 관계자는 말했다.
