Doosan Group launched its new Doota Duty Free store in Dongdaemun, eastern Seoul, Friday, the nation's first to be open late at night.

Doota Duty Free now occupies seven levels of the nine-story Doosan Tower Building, with the store totaling about 16,825 square meters and offering over 500 brands.

Inheriting the area's night-market tradition, Doota Duty Free operates until 11 p.m. or 2 a.m., depending on its floor rules. The group has picked an owl for the store's mascot.

A Doota Duty Free official said the store will pay the transportation expenses and give a 5 percent discount to night-time customers.

The first floor has leading cosmetic and perfume brands from home and abroad, including Estee Lauder, Loreal, Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy and LG Household & Health Care.

Accessory brands that sell sunglasses and jewelry, such as Swarovski, Pandora and J.Estina, are on the sixth floor while domestic brands and character shops, including Bruno Magli, Louis Quartorze, Bean Pole, Cath Kidston, Daks and Kakao Friends, are on the seventh.

Domestic beauty brands, such as Innisfree, It's Skin, Skin Food and TonyMoly occupy the eighth floor.

Appliances, heath food and beverage brands can be found on the store's ninth level.

Doota Duty Free's third floor has a section based on the popular Korean TV drama "Descendants of the Sun" to lure foreign tourists with theme photo zones and drama souvenirs.

The K-culture experience zone on the fourth floor is where tourists can wear traditional Korean "hanbok" costumes and experience designers' craftworks

Two more floors will be opened by August. The second floor, to open in July, will have luxury jewelry and watch brands such as Chopard, Breitling, TAG Heuer, Zenith and Baume & Mercier.

Overseas luxury brands will feature on the fifth floor from August, an official said.

Doota Duty Free has a help desk, exchange shop, stroller rental and coin lockers on the first floor, an official said.

In April, Doota Duty Free said it had appointed the nation's hottest hallyu celebrity, Song Joong-ki, who starred in "Descendants of the Sun," as its ambassador.

Dongdaemun is a popular tourist destination, especially among Chinese visitors, who make up about half the 7 million foreign visitors to the area a year.
