Tourists are being sold travel insurance that could prove worthless because it fails to protect families from problems such as missed flights or loss of luggage and expensive valuables.
While some insurance deals can be cheap, they may prove to be poor value because the excess holidaymakers have to pay to make a claim is prohibitively high.
Research by price comparison site comparethemarket.com found that nearly a third of single-trip policies do not cover missed connections in the UK and 14 percent do not pay our for missed flights.
