Koreans have no hang-ups switching phones
By Bahk Eun-ji Koreans upgrade their smartphones once every 14 months, on average, research shows. According to a Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) report, consumers hold on to other types of mobile phones for a year and seven months, on average. KISDI surveyed 10,172 people more than 6 years old from 4,313 families from May 15 to Sept. 2 last year. The survey was done before the new Mobile Distribution Act, which went into effect last October, which means the revision did not affect consumers' sentiment, KISDI said. Among respondents, 9,413, or 92.4 percent, had a mobile phone. By age, those under 10 kept their smartphones for 10 months, the shortest period. Those between teenage and their 40s upgraded after 14 to 17 months. People in their 50s held out for a year and nine months; those in their 60s two years and five months; and those in their 70s two years and 10 months. By handset maker, customers use Apple and Pantech devices a year and three months, Samsung devices a year and two months and for LG it is a year and one month |
