수사 드라마 속에서 사건 현장 속 유전자를 분석하는 하얀 가운을 입은 사람을 본 적이 있을 것이다. 바로 이것이 법과학이 사용된 예이다. 법과학은 과학적 범죄 수사 방법을 의미한다. 법과학 분야는 다시 4가지로 나뉜다. 그중 법독성학에 대하여 알아보자.

법독성학은 약물이 미치는 독성 작용들에 대해 연구하는 학문을 범죄에 적용한 학문이다. 이를 이용하여 해결된 사건으로 ‘가짜 판 베시 유통사건’ , ‘생수병 독극물 투입사건‘이 있다. 법독성학에서는 약품과 독물을 분석하고 약물이 사용된 사건의 사인을 규명하는 일을 한다.

그저 멋있다고만 생각했던 연구원. 나 또한 이 직업을 선택함으로써 정의로운 사회 구현에 기여하고 싶다.
